Weekly Brief 20th November

Today celebrates the UNs World Childrens Day, marking the date when the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted in 1959, and ever since has been used to promote international togetherness, awareness, and improving childrens welfare.

Although we have all been forced to accept drastic changes to our daily lives this year, childrens rights and welfare have been particularly altered with the pandemics effects on vital parts of their lives such as education. Following this weeks tentatively hopeful news from both Moderna and Pfitzers progress with a vaccine, the end of the pandemic seems a little closer in the reach. As we begin to consider what a post-pandemic world will look like, the UNs call to action this year for the international day asks for all generations to come together to use this opportunity to reimagine the type of world we want to create, asking us the question: what will you do to make a better world? Whilst all of our lives have undoubtedly changed, perhaps parts of our new normal’ will just become just that: our normal.
